Museum District The Kimbell Art Museum is consistently ranked among the outstanding modern public art-gallery facilities in the world. Designed by American architect Louis I. Kahn, the building that the Kimbell calls home is almost as famous as its collections. The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth exhibits the following contemporary art mediums: painting, sculpture, works on paper, and photography. A new Modern Art Museum designed by Tadao Ando opened in November, 2002, and is expected to rival the top modern art museums in the world. The Amon Carter Museum is devoted to exhibit the finest examples of American art, which includes Amon G. Carter's personal collection featuring Remingtons and Russells. The museum closed in 1999 for a $39 million dollar expansion and renovation which tripled its exhibition space. The
Fort Worth Museum of Science and History has been the most popular
cultural attraction in North Texas since the mid-1980s. It features interactive
exhibits, galleries, Noble Planetarium, and Omni Theater, which have shows
daily.
Stockyards National
Historic District Just 3 miles North of downtown and filled with western shops, restaurants, nightclubs, and Longhorns, the historical Stockyards, is a must see for those who want to experience the flavor of the Old West. Other Points of Interest The nationally ranked Fort
Worth Zoo is about 10 minutes driving from The Ashton Hotel. The Zoo
is full of interesting species and exhibits including Siberian Tigers,
Koala Bears, a primate exhibit designed by Dr. Jane Goodall, and the Texas
Wild exhibit. The Ashton is the perfect place to stay during parents' weekend for Texas Christian University and Texas Wesleyan University. Both are private universities about 10 minutes driving from the hotel. |
